Day 4 of the Vault RWF did not disappoint, as we saw a lot more Liquid in Mythic, and we even had two more guilds move past the dreaded 2/8 barrier! EU guilds stayed out of Mythic for another full day as they gathered up that gear diligently, so it was a US-only affair.

Liquid continued their progress on Dathea and it took them a while to get back into their 43ish% groove from the day before, but they got there and started really pushing the fifth boss of the Vault down. After a 30% wipe and around 50 pulls on the boss, Blizzard deemed the boss a little too hard, as some very significant nerfs came in, reducing the boss HP by 15% and adding another add players could place their charges into, reducing healing requirements by quite a bit. The very next pull saw Liquid get the boss down to 7%, and it was another 7 pulls after that before the actual kill arrived (62 in total). You can find more info on the kill here.

That meant it was Kurog Grimtotem time, as he is the only one left to face in order to progress, but before that we had some other Mythic action brewing!

BDGG entered the Mythic Vault and immediately started mowing bosses down, taking the usual 1 pull for the first two bosses. Then came the first obstacle of the raid, as Terros was scaring off many guilds, and only Liquid had gotten him down before that, while others only put 10 pulls in before quitting around 40%. BDGG did have to put in some effort here, taking 15 pulls (compared to Liquid’s 5) and a 3% wipe to finally get the third boss down and grab that World 2nd!

They then went forward to the next boss, the very icy spider that is Sennarth, where they spent the rest of their day. Liquid got the boss down in 12 pulls, but it proved to be an even bigger gap between the two top US guilds this time, as BDGG took 55 tries to… not kill the boss. There were many close calls, with another 3 percenter being the most painful, but they had to call it a night before managing to get the boss down.

And while all this was going on, Liquid were pushing Kurog, and managed to get quite far into the fight. It’s a really intense one, with many adds, different openings and progress paths through the fight to choose, as the guild decides which (literal) elements will come in when. In the end a 45.5% try was the best they could do, but this is all very much the experimentation phase, as they are still looking for the best strategy here (literally, as they’re still raiding and streaming right now).

They the followed that up with an even more impressive 35.7%:

There was even MORE Mythic action today, however (I know, I know, if only we could get back to the calm INFINITE SPLITS days of yore), as a third competitor entered the post-2/8 stage! Instant Dollars dared take on Terros, despite basically everyone else being too scared, and they managed to take him down, securing the World 3rd after 10 pulls. They dipped their toe into Sennarth as well, and got him down to 25% after 14 pulls.

So all-in-all a pretty great day of raiding in the RWF (to think that I’d be saying that with only 3 guilds actually in Mythic…), but it’s looking like it’s about to be eclipsed as Saturday may just be Mythic EU guild day, and we get to see just how far in they can get, and how quickly. With the newly nerfed Dathea it shouldn’t be too much of a problem to get to Kurog, and then we’ll have some classic neck-and-neck progress on the same boss to enjoy!
