If you’ve accidentally used the Welcome Back Gift on an alt with a higher item level than 174, you will find your previously-equipped gear in the mailbox!
If you have alts between 10-60 eligible for the Welcome Back Gift, make sure to check their item level first because if it’s higher than 174, you will be in for a bad surprise, as the gear you’ll see on your character will have a lower item level.
However, it’s just temporary because you will find your old gear waiting for you in the mailbox.
“Gear Update” will lower your alt’s ilvl if its above 174
