Here’s one of those “whoops” developer moments that turned into a pretty funny mini-event, as players found a test creature which was positioned juust a little off and stood out enough to be noticed – and had a pretty specific name to boot!

Isaak’s Test Creature is a pretty jolly ogre that found its home literally inside a wall in Loch Modan, and was minding its own business when Robbedoesje spotted it.

Anyone seen this Isaac’s Test Creature before?

It seems it was added in patch 10.0.7 and while we can be sure what its specific purpose was, aka to test, we don’t really know what it was testing. What does seem clear is that it wasn’t removed after the PTR stage or if it was intended to be there on live servers it was hidden just a little too high, as it definitely would not have been found if it was completely inside the wall.

After the reddit post appeared, other players also went and found him, and one even Mind Controlled him to find out that he has a spell, one of the versions of Firegut Chili. When killed it dropped loot from Outland.

The trapped ogre’s saga does not end there, however, as speculation about him perhaps being involved in some secret was shut down very quickly, with a swift disappearance only a day after the post. Player ItsNeebs visited the site of the test creature and having found it missing made this pretty funny reference to the whole situation (or is ItsNeebs actually Isaac the Blizzard developer who started all this?):

Adventurers! Thank you for making me aware of the escaped test creature. The issue has been dealt with, and the subject flown back to Area 52.

What exactly happened to Isaac’s Test Creature remains a mystery, as he was hopefully just removed and not simply moved just a little further down below the terrain, to suffer for eternity. Perhaps the brave ogre is on to his next mission and test, helping improve the game.

In either case, we offer a salute to Mr. I.T. Creature and his tireless testing efforts and hope that he can be memorialized in the game at some future point!
