Shadowlands contains many borrowed power systems, so we’re looking at what happens with Covenant abilities, Legendary powers, and Tier Set bonuses in the Dragonflight pre-patch and beyond.

Many existing Covenant Abilities and Legendary Powers have been implemented as talents in the Dragonflight pre-patch. But what exactly happens when you have both versions at the same time? I see this question pop up frequently and thought now would be a good time to clarify.

Covenant Abilities

Dragonflight Pre-Patch

Covenant Abilities will override talents. For example, Demon Hunter can access The Hunt by choosing the Night Fae Covenant, but the talent can also be picked in the Havoc tree. If you have both, the Covenant Ability will override the talent.

You cannot have multiple versions of the same spell / double-stacked Covenant Abilities.

Dragonflight Launch

Covenant Abilities will be disabled outside Shadowlands content starting November 28, 2022.

Legendary Powers

Dragonflight Pre-Patch

Similarly, Legendary Powers will override talents if both versions are available.

You cannot have multiple versions of the same spell / double-stacked Legendary Powers.

Dragonflight Launch

Legendary Powers will be disabled outside of Shadowlands content when the expansion releases on November 28, 2022.

Tier Set Bonuses

Dragonflight Pre-Patch

Tier Set Bonuses will be disabled and not work in combat when the pre-patch releases on October 25, 2022.
